Scripted and directed by Zeph Nzama, Women in Singing is an upbeat new
musical focusing on women who have been abused spiritually and physically.
Instead of bemoaning their unhappy situations, they have decided to come
together with a positive attitude.
Following their dream of singing, they form
their own group titled Women in Singing. With luck and perseverance, things
look up when they are invited to take part in a big event in New York. Set in a
rehearsal space and featuring an all-female multi-racial cast and band, the new
show is humorous, energetic, entertaining and educational, carrying a message
that with a steadfast attitude to making the most of life, people can achieve
their dreams. Boasting a line-up of fresh new songs,
Women
In Singing stars a powerhouse cast of performers: Sam
Hlophe (A Brave New World, Dance Your
Butt Off, Just For You), Angel Dateh Zondo (Stimela with Ray Phiri), Sheila
Mkhize (African Passion, Durban Blues
Festival), Philele Chonco (Joyous Celebration series) and Mpume Mthombeni (Tin Bucket Drum, Lollipop Lane, The Game,
Animal Farm).
They appear onstage with the live backing
of a five-piece band including musical director Mthobisi Mthalane on keyboards,
Mbuso Sokhela on bass, Spha Dlamini (drums), Nokwanda Nkala (saxophone) and
