The 2014 third year
African Music and Dance students in The School of Arts at UKZN present what
promises to be an exciting fund-raising performance at Howard College Theatre
on August 18.
The aim of the
concert is to fundraise for the upcoming Annual African Cultural Calabash which
will be held on October 18, 2014. The concert features great talents of the
team itself third year African Music and Dance students- Ikusasa lethu – Our
Future which is an AMD professional touring ensemble at the University of
KwaZulu-Natal, directed by Dr Patricia Opondo.
The concert
features three ensembles- Ikusasa lethu, The Sacred featuring Nontobeko Sibiya
(an Afro Gospel group which was formed by students from Howard College Campus -
Afro Jazz singer Nontobeko Sibiya and friends - Mthobisi, Kholeka, Ziyanda,
Njabulo, and Saneh - and AMD Students.
In celebration of
Women’s month, the concert features compositions, choreography’s and
arrangements by the female students in the programme.
The theme of the
show is “Bring back our girls in the
name of African Music in solidarity of the Nigerian girls that were captured by
the Bhoko Haram.
The concert takes
place from 12h15 to 13h05 in Howard College Theatre on August 18. Entrance fee,
