The Blue Monday Platform is one of PANSA-KZN initiatives for
emerging artists to gain an insight into the performing arts industry, to meet
and to network with some of the professionals from the industry. This
experience of the initiative includes an audition process, technical run and
stage rehearsal, introduction workshop and live performance in front of an
audience.
This initiative started running two years ago, co-ordinated
by Mtho Zulu who was a PANSA (Performing Arts Network of South Africa) intern
at the time. The Interns at the time saw the gap in the industry and also felt
that PANSA was focusing a lot more on theatre productions, and this would be a
great project to bridge the gap. As all performing arts forms are focused on
and creating a great sense of networking and growth for the emerging artists, the
process seeks to connect the emerging artists with the professionals such as
event organisers, music producers, theatre and film directors and possibly
radio and television executives.
The event has managed to spread across all areas of Durban
as there will be performances from people in the INK areas, namely Inanda,
Ntuzuma and Kwa Mashu and will also cover performances from people in the
Durban urban areas such as Pinetown, Morningside etc.
Blue Monday Platform also looks at changing the perspective
of arts, creating opportunity not only for artists but also for producers to
see what is up and new in the performing industry, giving fresh innovative and
new outlook of ideas for the performing arts industry. So, if you are looking
for a performances for your next event or if you are simply interested in
seeing live acts from Durban’s young and emerging artists then come join us.
