The Schlesinger
Theatre at Michaelhouse offers a great introduction to Shakespeare, with a good
version of Twelfth Night, and a whole
lot of fun.
Directed by Michaelhouse’s
Director of Theatre, William le Cordeur, 12th
Nite or What you Will? features a cast from Michaelhouse and Howick High.
The preamble reads:
“Girl meets boy, falls in love, the rest is history… no such luck! Girl,
dressed as boy, meets boy, falls in love; different girl, who same boy has
crush on, falls for girl dressed as boy… Yes, 12th NITE: or What you Will? Shakespeare’s comic genius was never
this much fun! Decoded, and running for about 40min each way, this production
of Twelfth Night will keep you in
stitches, as we explore the insecurity of young love, the uniqueness of gender
and the sameness of pop culture. With a live DJ, graffiti-ed stage and hipster
costumes; this Shakespeare will be a fantastic trip out for the whole family!”
12th Nite or What you Will? is “decoded” to help with the flow of
language for the less literate Shakespeare enthusiasts. “But not to worry,
those who are a fan of the great Bard will miss nothing, we are still pure, to
a point, and our interpretation is as valid today as it was then. In fact, a
version of Twelfth Night has only
just won a Tony award in the USA, which is an Oscar for the stage. This play is
funny, relevant, and I dare to say, wonderfully performed!” says le Cordeur
