Deadline: September 30,
2014
Ethekwini Municipality’s Durban Film Office will host a
workshop on October 1 from 12 noon to 13h00 at Durban’s SmartXchange, to
announce the grantee’s of the first cycle of their Micro Budget Film Programme
and the Development Fund Programme, as well as announce the call out for the
second cycle of funding.
The Micro Budget Film Programme was designed to equip
emerging filmmakers with the opportunity to gain experience in the film
industry and develop their filmmaking skills. This ground-breaking programme
will award five micro budget projects with production grants of R100,000 to
produce their films within the framework of an in depth training programme
focusing on mentoring these filmmakers through the entire production process.
The main goal of the programme is to develop a model of filmmaking that teaches
filmmakers to make more for less with a view to making filmmaking more
accessible to emerging filmmakers who are attempting to break into the main
stream markets.
In addition to the Micro Budget Film Programme, the Durban
Film Office has also selected two local projects to receive development grants
to further their projects. The development grant was established for bigger
budget films to assist filmmakers in bridging the development gap and enabling
them to access critical support offered at Provincial and National levels.
The workshop is open to all interested filmmakers and will
announce key dates and application criteria for the next funding cycle. Those
who wish to attend are encouraged to book their seats by the September 30 via
Mlungisi Zondi on 031 311 4780 or email Mlungisi.Zondi@durban.gov.za
