SCOUT

Durban’s first film location scouting programme launches soon.

The Durban Film Office is excited to launch SCOUT, the first location scouting mentorship and development programme in Durban.

Kicking off this programme, a riveting one day free Locations Scouting Workshop will take place on October 9 at the picturesque Botanic Gardens, where budding filmmakers will be introduced to the world of location scouting. Durban is a perfect location for filming; boasting incredible shorelines, rolling hills and vibrant urban scenes.

With Durban being such a diverse location, this makes the role of a location scout vital in a modern film crew and an important link to local and international production companies interested in filming in Durban.

The Durban Film Office, the film industry development arm of the eThekwini Municipality, has worked extensively to cultivate this pioneering SCOUT programme. The Locations Scouting Workshop will serve as an introduction to the overall programme, expose filmmakers to the opportunities that exist and educate them on what is expected in the business of location scouting.

“We are so excited about this new programme. Durban is such a robust and diverse location, the need to find more location scouts is crucial in promoting Durban in filmmaking and actively putting our city in the spotlight, locally and internationally. This workshop promises to expose filmmakers to the art of location scouting and introduce them to the exciting role they play in the modern film industry,” say Durban Film Office’s Toni Monty.

The free Locations Scouting Workshop will take place from 09h00 to 16h00, on October 9 at Durban Botanic Gardens. There are only 50 seats available; so booking is essential through Faiza Williams of the Durban Film Office via email faiza.williams@durban.gov.za
