Who will nab those coveted Oscar statuettes?
Movie fans can set their alarm clocks for early on Monday
morning (February 23) to catch the live broadcast of the 87th Annual Academy
Awards on M-Net Movies Premiere, channel 103 on DStv. There will be on-going
red carpet coverage from just after midnight, while the ceremony will start at
approximately 03h30.
If you prefer a good night’s sleep, however, tune into
M-Net, channel 101, on Monday evening at 19h30.
The big question is: Will the Critics Choice Awards, the
Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the British Academy Film
Awards be an indication of what will happen at the Oscars? Or will there be plenty
of surprises?
Boyhood has been
performing extremely well at these ceremonies, but it has strong competition in
the form of Birdman, The Imitation Game,
The Grand Budapest Hotel and The
Theory of Everything.
In the Best Actor in a Leading Role category Eddie Redmayne,
who portrayed Stephen Hawking in The
Theory of Everything is up against Steve Carell for Foxcatcher, Benedict Cumberbatch for The Imitation Game, Bradley Cooper for American Sniper and Michael Keaton for Birdman.
Will Julianne Moore, who received the Golden Globe this
year, be on the stage again for Still
Alice? Or do Marion Cotillard, Felicity Jones, Rosamund Pike or Reese
Witherspoon still stand a chance to take an Oscar home?
