Due to overwhelming public support and encouragement, and
the cooperation and generosity of the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre management,
KickstArt Theatre is delighted to announce that it will go ahead with its full
artistic programme for 2015, despite the possible threats from loadshedding.
“We have weighed up the pros and cons of producing large
scale productions like Shrek, the Musical
in the midst of loadshedding, and we have decided that, risks aside, it would
be a great pity to suddenly stop operating after 11 years of hard work and to
deny our loyal public access to these great shows,” says Executive Director,
Steven Stead.
“We are going to go ahead with our full schedule of four
productions in Durban and two in Cape Town and Johannesburg for 2015. At the
end of our annual programme, we will again assess what damage (if any) we have
sustained due to loadshedding and whether it is possible to continue under the
circumstances,” said Stead.
The company has made adjustments to its performance
schedules and commencement times in order to suffer the least possible
interruption from loadshedding and has investigated ways in which to complete
performances should the theatre lose power in a worst-case scenario.
Forthcoming 2015 productions that Durban theatre lovers can
expect from KickstArt Theatre are:
Shrek, the Musical - May
28 to June 28: The South African premiere of the hit Broadway musical
adaptation of the blockbuster movie Shrek
starring Lyle Buxton, Rory Booth, Jessica Sole, Jacobus van Heerden and Graeme
Wicks.
Snoopy!!! - August 7 to 23: A delightful mini-musical based on
Charles Schultz’s well-loved “Peanuts” comic strip starring Carol Trench, Bryan
Hiles and Steven Stead.
Puss in Boots - December
4 to January 10: KickstArt’s 10th family pantomime; a rollicking, swashbuckling
adventure, set on an enchanted tropical island, starring Rory Booth, Bryan
Hiles, Darren King, Londiwe Dhlomo, Peter Court, Lyle Buxton, Belinda Henwood, Nhlakanipho
Manqele and Caitlin Kilburn.
All of these productions will be staged at the Elizabeth
Sneddon Theatre, and will be directed by Steven Stead and designed by Greg
King. Booking is now open at Computicket.
