DEATH OF PATRICK NGCOBO

(Patrick Ngcobo)

artSMart is saddened to note the passing of notable Carnatic classic musician, Patrick Ngcobo, who died in hospital on February 1.

Born in Kloof, Ngcobo came from a Zulu background and was a singer and composer in his home language but was equally proficient in songs in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam languages. This made him a rare and highly respected cultural crossover exponent and for many years, he hosted a regular show on Carnatic music on Lotus FM.

He was invited by master singer Dr K J Yesudas to study with him in Madras, India, where he underwent intensive training.

Subry Govender pays his last respects and republishes and article he wrote on Ngcobo at http://subrygovender.blogspot.com/2015/02/ndabkona-patrick-ngcobo-forgotten.html
