(Patrick Ngcobo)
artSMart is saddened to note the passing of notable Carnatic
classic musician, Patrick Ngcobo, who died in hospital on February 1.
Born in Kloof, Ngcobo came from a Zulu background and was a
singer and composer in his home language but was equally proficient in songs in
Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam languages. This made him a rare and highly
respected cultural crossover exponent and for many years, he hosted a regular
show on Carnatic music on Lotus FM.
He was invited by master singer Dr K J Yesudas to study with
him in Madras, India, where he underwent intensive training.
