From April 24 to 26, Michaelhouse brings the sound of music
to the Midlands with over 500 world-class musical performers to entertain
audiences of all tastes with seven acts over three days. In its inaugural year,
the event is long-anticipated and will bring a musical touch of class to the
area.
Veteran conductor Richard Cock is the Creative Director of
the event which will include performances by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra,
Platform Jazz and Nibs van der Spuy.
The musical programme will kick off in the School’s Schlesinger
theatre on the evening of April 24 and will whisk music lovers through a range
of genres including performances by Gareth Gale, Ildo Nanja, well known concert
pianist Christopher Duigan, virtuoso violinist Joanna Frankel, Sue Cock and
Brothers in Arms the massed choirs of Michaelhouse, Kearsney College, the KZN
Midlands Youth Choir, the Clifton Nottingham Road Prep Senior Primary Choir and
the Chanticleer singers.
And for something entirely different, the marching band of
the Field Band Foundation will delight spectators of the first XV rugby clash
between Michaelhouse and Kearsney College, both before and at half time of the
match on Saturday afternoon.
The festival will end at 19h00 on April 26 with a
performance by the Chanticleer Singers under the baton of Richard Cock in the
Michaelhouse Chapel.
Enjoy the best of South African folk, choral and classical
music in the tranquil setting of Balgowan.
