THE SOLOMON WILLY BAND

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will present the Solomon Willy band on May 6.

Born in the city of Warri in Nigeria, Solomon was first exposed to gospel music as a member of the children’s church choir. He later learnt to play the drums and the keyboard. While at school, he started to develop more interest in lead guitar. He began to study the basics of the instrument at a local music school in 1997 and over the years improved his musical skills with more practice and experience.

Solomon is a performing artist, composer, songwriter and a music producer. He formed the Solomon Willy Jazz Band in 2009. The band offers an extensive mix of popular tasteful African jazz and contemporary hits. They highly experienced as they usually play in corporates functions, Jazz festivals, and live music venues.

One of the highlights of the band was taking part in the 2010 FIFA World Cup where there were over 25,000 soccer fans from all over the world.

The Solomon Willy Band can be seen on May 6 at The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM) Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus.
