Rhythm and Dance, the Royal Academy of Dance (KwaZulu-Natal)
annual showcase and fundraiser takes place at the Playhouse on June 20. It
features 227 dancers aged five to eighteen from 16 studios. A great diversity
of dance is to be found in this showcase: Classical Ballet, Contemporary,
Modern, Hip-Hop, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Spanish and Celtic.
Teachers will each
present a programme of their own choice.
From the Durban
area, there’s Mary Ann Salvage (Mary Ann Salvage School of Ballet, Berea); Sheila
Davidson (Sheila’s Dance School, Hillcrest); Jacqui Weddell (Jacqueline Weddell
Academy of Dance, Durban North); Catherine Brown (Catherine Brown School of
Ballet); Gail Smith (Gail Smith School of Dancing, Durban North); Jenny
Walter-Girout (Springwood Dance Academy, Durban North); Betty Blake (Betty
Blake Academy of Dance, Bluff); Bonnie Hayman De Beer (KZN Dance Academy, Pinetown
& Hillcrest); Winsome Fuller (Winsome Fuller School of Ballet, Glenwood),
and Sue Cook (Sue Cook Dance Studio).
From the
Pietermaritzburg and Midlands area are: Susan Cleary (Midlands Dance Theatre
Centre, Pietermaritzburg); Domaine Keyser (Domaine’s School of Dance, Lion’s
River); Heather Proctor (Heather Proctor School of Dancing, Pietermaritzburg),
and Brenda McLachlan (Brenda McLachlan School of Dancing, Pietermaritzburg).
A portion of the
funds raised go towards the Royal Academy of Dance Vocational Graded Seminars
to be held from September 2 to 6 in Durban as well as the Bursary Awards to be
held on November 15.
Rhythm and Dance will take place in The Playhouse Opera on
June 20 at 15h30. Tickets R90 include a programme. Bookings is through
