With venues across Durban, The Other People’s Film Festival
presented by Refugee Social Services, aims to promote dignity, respect,
understanding, tolerance and human rights for all people, by screening local
and international films on the realities and experiences faced by refugees and
immigrants all over the world.
Refugee Social Services has partnered with organisations
such as Right 2 Know, Alliance Française Durban, Chatsworth Youth Centre and
the KZNSA to take the festival to communities across Durban. More screening
partners will be confirmed leading up to the festival.
The films are provided with courtesy of the Tricontinents
Human Rights Film Festival with films from Africa, the Middle East, North
America and Europe. The line-up includes films such as the acclaimed Road Map to Apartheid on Palestine; The Road To No Return; Gonzo documentary
film The Ambassador on corruption and
power in Africa.
Funded by Oxfam Australia in South Africa and UNHCR, The
Other People’s Film Festival runs from June 12 to 20 to commemorate World
Refugee Day on June 20.
The KZNSA Gallery will present a short film package of Angels, Our Broken Dreams and Asikhulume on June 16 at 13h30.
