David Masondo, the highly respected lead singer of the well-known
traditional music group Soul Brothers, died last weekend at the age of 67.
He had
been in hospital after he collapsed from exhaustion on stage in Uitenhage a
month ago.
His funeral was held on July 12 in his home town of Harmmarsdale
and was attended by thousands of music fans as well as well-known music
personalities and high profile members of government.
One of the top presenters of the mbaqanga sound, Soul
Brothers have recorded over 30 albums since their formation in 1974. Shortly
before his collapse, David Masondo had recorded a song with Ladysmith Black
Mambazo.
