DEATH OF DAVID MASONDO

(David Masondo)

David Masondo, the highly respected lead singer of the well-known traditional music group Soul Brothers, died last weekend at the age of 67.

He had been in hospital after he collapsed from exhaustion on stage in Uitenhage a month ago.

His funeral was held on July 12 in his home town of Harmmarsdale and was attended by thousands of music fans as well as well-known music personalities and high profile members of government.

One of the top presenters of the mbaqanga sound, Soul Brothers have recorded over 30 albums since their formation in 1974. Shortly before his collapse, David Masondo had recorded a song with Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
