Raiders yet again raid the stage. (Review by Thomie
Holtzhausen)
The National Arts Festival is synonymous with the Raiders offering. I first saw Nicholas Ellenbogen and his team
in the early 90’s and over the years they have never failed to entertain.
This year Ellenbogen is supported by three very talented
young men, David Viviers, Cameron Robertson and Nathan Lynn. The three lads
stole the hearts of the audiences with their singing, all three extremely
capable of handling their respective music instruments and their physical
theatre antics are on par with the master himself, Nicholas Ellenbogen.
The almost fatherly supportive role of Ellenbogen on stage
in this year’s production is nostalgic and his letting-go of his fellow young
actors to throw their energies at the audience was heartwarming. A true recipe
to ensure that the Raiders-succession
will be with us in many years to come.
Ellenbogen is a genius on stage as well as in producing these highly
entertaining pieces that enthrall newcomers to theatre year after year.
