The highly anticipated 3rd Annual Simon Mabhunu Sabela
Awards will take place on July 19, 2015, and the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission
is inviting actors, filmmakers, producers, film teams and other industry
players to nominate their recent work.
Held during the Durban International Film Festival, this
awards ceremony showcases excellence within the South African film industry and
particularly the booming film location of KZN, which is fast becoming one of
the leading destinations for film achievement in Africa. Actors, actresses,
student filmmakers, directors and various other film technicians will be
honoured at this award event, within the following categories:
Best actor; Best actress; Best supporting actor; Best
supporting actress; Best newcomer actor/actress; Best screenplay; Best director;
Best use of KZN as filming location (Best Feature Film) and Best IsiZulu film.
Other awards include Best documentary short; Best
documentary feature length; Best micro-budget film; Best student film and two Lifetime
achievement awards.
The awards form part of an incentive by the Department of
Economic Development Tourism and Environmental Affairs and the KwaZulu-Natal
Film Commission. The awards are named after Simon Mabhunu Sabela, a screen
legend who was not only South Africa's first black film director but also a
highly talented actor who has featured in over 34 movies on home soil and
abroad.
Industry professionals are invited to submit their
nominations for the awards that will take place on July 19. The closing date
for nominations is July 11 2015 at 17h00,.
