Appearing on the M-Net Movies Premiere DStv Channel 103 on August
10 at 19h00 will be the science fiction thriller, Transcendence.
Directed in 2014 by Wally Pfister, the film stars Johnny
Depp, Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany and Morgan Freeman
Computers closely resemble the human mind in the way they
process data. What is lacking, is sentience – the ability to feel. Johnny Depp,
one of the most sensitive and poetic actors of this age, plays the part of a
scientist in search of this holy grail of artificial intelligence.
Dr Will Caster (Johnny Depp) becomes a target of a terrorist
group intent of halting all research into artificial intelligence when he
devises a method of transferring human intelligence (and emotions) to a
powerful computer – and vice versa.
