USHAKA SEARCH FOR THE STARS

uShaka Marine World is once again looking for KwaZulu-Natal’s new and emerging talents to add to the entertainment line-up offered around the park.

Announcing the 2015 auditions for the uShaka Search for the Stars competition in partnership with the Department of Arts and Culture, uShaka CEO, Stella Khumalo, says she is extremely excited to see what talent emerges from this competition which has become a much-loved event amongst uShaka visitors throughout the years.

Open to both amateurs and professionals, uShaka Search for the Stars boasts a number of categories that need to be filled with deserving talent.

In the dance group section, the judges are looking for a minimum of three dancers specialising in one or more of the various dance styles - from Pantsula, Contemporary, Local, International, Indian, Tswana, Tin dancers, Football dancers, Hip hop dancers, Isigekle, Kwaito dancers, Ingoma yamantombazane, uShameni and Gumboot.

Acapella singers, Wedding singers, Hip Hop singers, Kwaito singers and Afro Gospel singers are also encouraged to enter (four group members or more), as well as professional bands.

The judges will also be searching for those with a speciality act, such as Mime artists, Circus performers, Buskers, Magicians and similar.

Audition take place across KwaZulu-Natal in August and September on the following days:

August 08 - UThukela District (305 Murchison Street in Ladysmith)
August 15 - Amajuba District (Osizweni Arts Centre in Newcastle)
August 16 - UMzinyathi District (Nquthu V. A. Makhoba Hall)
August 22 - Zululand District (Indonsa Arts Centre in Ulundi)
August 23 - uMgungundlovu District (Winston Churchill Theatre in Pietermaritzburg)
August 29 - uMkhanyakude District (Phumulani Town Hall, Hluhluwe)
August 30 - Ugu District (Venue to be confirmed)
September  12 & 13 - uShaka Marine World in Durban
September 19 - Harry Gwala District (Bulwer Arts Centre)
September 20 - uThungulu District (Venue to be confirmed)

Those who are successful at the auditions and are selected to go to the finals on September 27 at uShaka Marine World, will be competing with other districts for a one-year contract to perform at uShaka Marine World.

“uShaka has seen more than 10,000 talented performers auditioning over the past eight years and we have created jobs for over 3,500 artists. We look forward to seeing more talented performers share their magic for our guests,” says Khumalo.
