(“Dancing Together” - woodcut
by Ezequiel Mabote)
Elizabeth Gordon Gallery has recently acquired some new
woodcuts from artist Ezequeil Mabote.
Born and educated in Mozambique, Mabote has lived and worked
in Durban for many years. He has made woodcut art his speciality and is
considered today one of KZN’s foremost woodcut artists.
He produces images that reflect his childhood memories –
people at work, leisure and prayer. He illustrates traditional folk tales and
family stories told to him by his grandparents.
His work is collected throughout South Africa, UK and the
United States. He has recently completed some wall murals for a chain in
Johannesburg, and subsequently a commission for the same chain, in Dubai.
The Elizabeth Gordon Gallery is situated at 120 Florida
Road. For further information phone 031 303 8133, fax 031 303 8136, email: joy@elizabethgordon.co.za
