Eshowe-based new media artist Cebo Simphiwe Xulu is
presenting homage to the positive contributions of 25 future icons of South
Africa’s digital age. The work called Selfie
25 is set as an abstract personal commentary on the modern phenomenon of
the selfie culture, and is sponsored by Nedbank Arts Affinity and the Arts
& Culture Trust (ACT).
The project is a vibrant, amusing, integrative digital
project that bridges the concept of traditional art with the digital sphere by
use of the concept of the selfie. A treatise into the art of selfie culture,
Selfie 25 invites art lovers and observers to come to the gallery space to take
selfies with Xulu’s artworks called “Digital Selfies” and share their art
selfies on their social media under the hashtag #selfie25.
