The UKZN School of Arts will present Singing for 67 Blankets, a Vocal Showcase featuring talented
singers from the School of Arts (Music) at the Centre for Jazz and Popular
Music on October 13.
The evening of Song includes a programme of Opera, Classical
Voice, Popular Music, Jazz, Isicathamiya, Amahubo, solo and ensemble singing.
This bi-annual concert not only provides a platform to showcase the talented,
diverse singers in the School of Arts, it also offers an opportunity to make a
contribution to the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day project, the national
charity which has achieved a Guinness Book of Records award.
Singers in the Music Discipline have all contributed towards
buying wool and knitting needles while others have knitted squares or sewn
together whole, or parts of, blankets. The blankets will be presented at the
concert to arts personality and artSMart Editor, Caroline Smart, who is one of the KZN
Ambassadors for 67 Blankets.
A donation box for wool/cash to buy wool and needles will be
available at the door.
Singing for 67
Blankets takes place at 18h00 on October 13 at the Centre for Jazz and
Popular Music. Tickets R50 (R30 pensioners & R15 students) and doors open
at 17h30. For further information, email: marid1@ukzn.ac.za
