(Members of the
Drakensberg Boys’ Choir in full voice!)
The KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Drakensberg
Boys’ Choir will join forces for a concert to celebrate Christmas in the
Pietermaritzburg City Hall on December 3.
This popular evening of music and song, simply titled Christmas, is once again presented by
ParklaneSuperSpar, in association with Christopher Duigan’s Music Revival and
the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, and sponsored by the City of Pietermaritzburg,
CPW Printers and ABI.
The orchestra will play a section of Christmas favourites
including Sleigh Ride and A Christmas Fantasy and the
world-renowned Drakensberg Boys Choir will lift the audience’s spirit with
their singing of seasonal music including selections from Stella Natalis, a work for choir and large orchestra by
contemporary Welsh composer Karl Jenkins, composer of the popular Adiemus.
The choir will also lead the audience in the singing of
traditional carols accompanied by the famous City Hall organ.
Soloists for the evening include Cape Town soprano Beverley
Chiat, who sings O Holy Night and I Know that my Redeemer Liveth from
Handel’s Messiah, and Pietermaritzburg-based
concert pianist, Christopher Duigan.
The KZN Philharmonic will be conducted by Daniel Walshaw,
while lighting for the concert is provided by Big Beat.
The Christmas concert
will take place at 19h00 on December 3 in the Pietermaritzburg City Hall. Tickets
