DEATH OF MBHEKI MABHIDA

Director of Eager Artists and the Wushwini Art Centre, Jerry Pooe, reports the sad news of the death of Mbheki Mabhida who passed away on November 7 after a short illness.

“He was one of the respected actors in the theatre industry,” says Jerry Pooe. “He performed under Eager Artists in productions such as Peace in the Valley, Mine Ghosts, Truth Commission, The Island as well as Gallimoto in Buffalo New York. He was also a freelance artist who performed in Queen, Moipone at the Playhouse. His passion for development of young people led him to teaching Arts and Culture at Margot Fonteyn Secondary School, and he also worked with young people in the community.”

A DUT graduate, Mabhida recently graduated at UKZN for his teachers Degree. He directed Waiting for Godot which was seen by hundreds of schoolchildren at Stable Theatre and Wushwini Arts, Culture and Heritage Centre. He leaves his fiancée and two children.
