THE HUNGER GAMES

MTN Movies will present a three-day special on the science fiction action adventure series, The Hunger Games, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson.

November 20: M-Net Movies Showcase DStv Channel 108 at 20h00: The Hunger Games directed by Gary Ross in 2012. Suzanne Collins, who created the Hunger Games novels on which the films are based, took inspiration from the history of the Roman Empire, and especially the gladiators, for her depiction of Hunger Games participants. The shocking yet romantic tale harks back to the days of the gladiators and simultaneously delivers a warning about a dark dystopian future. Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) steps forward to take her sister’s place in an annual battle to the death, devised by a cruel dictator to keep his underlings at bay and punish them for an uprising. Rating 16V

November 21: M-Net Movies Showcase DStv Channel 108 at 20h00: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire directed by Francis Lawrence in 2013. The Hunger Games series was an instant box-office hit, but truly caught fire with the second instalment and catapulted Jennifer Lawrence to superstardom. In this series, revolution is simmering in District 12, inspired by the glorious performance delivered by Katniss Everdeen in winning the 74th Hunger Games. Leading the rebellion may be her true destiny. Rating 13V.

November 22: M-Net Movies Premiere DStv Channel 103 at 20h30: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 directed by Francis Lawrence in 2014. The novel Mockingjay sold 450,000 copies in its first week on the shelves. Katniss has survived the Hunger Games twice, which makes her a legend in District 13 – and the involuntary symbol of the revolution against the Capitol. She is confused by rumours and false reports, but remains determined to secure Peeta’s release, irrespective of the consequences. Rating: 13V
