Deadline: December 15,
2015
UJ Arts & Culture, a division of the University of Johannesburg’s
Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture, will offer Practitioner Residencies
during 2016. Small, independent theatre or dance companies, and individual
performers, directors, set designers, lighting designers, choreographers,
curators, stage managers and theatre technicians are invited to submit
expressions of interest.
According to producer Grace Meadows, “Since 2011 we have
developed structured relationships with a small group of emerging practitioners
who have played an important part of our annual programme. We are now in the
process of consolidating our associations with creative practitioners into a
formal programme of practitioner residencies for next year,” Meadows explains.
Residencies are unpaid, but successful applicants will
receive a modest monthly stipend, access to facilities for working on their own
proposed projects and the opportunity to be matched with one or more projects
of the planned 2016 UJ Arts & Culture annual programme. Successful
applicants will be offered residences for periods ranging between one to ten
months and preference will be given to less established independent companies
and recent graduates.
Expressions of interest must take the form of a one-page CV
and a one-page proposal incorporating an artistic statement and a motivation
for the company or individual’s residency. Do not send additional supporting
documents or other information at this stage.
