GRANT SWANBY FOR MODDER EN BLOED

(Grant Swanby as Colonel Swannell)

Former Durban actor Grant Swanby features in the Anglo Boer War film, Modder en Bloed (Blood and Glory). Courage, bravery and camaraderie are at the heart of this new South African film, the teaser trailer of which can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRpY8nX6vJM

In 1901, while the Anglo Boer War rages in South Africa, Boer warrior Willem Morkel’s (Stian Bam) wife and only child are murdered by British soldiers. Willem is taken captive and banned to the island of St Helena where other Boers are also held as prisoners of war.

There is no mercy for them and under terrible conditions; every day becomes a battle for survival. But this encourages camaraderie among the men, and they become like family.

Grant Swanby plays Colonel Swannell who is in control of the concentration camp. He has such a deep-seated hate for the Afrikaner that he makes their existence as difficult as possible. Then Willem accepts a challenge, which will lead to the most important battle of the Boers’ lives…

Modder en Bloed’s impressive ensemble cast includes both South African and British actors. Local actors such as Deon Lotz, Edwin van der Walt, Albert Maritz, Altus Theart, Jacques Bessenger, Bok van Blerk, Michael Richard and David Louw star in the film; while the British cast includes Charlotte Salt (Katherine Sterndale), Patrick Connolly, Nick Cornwall and Josh Myers.

Modder en Bloed is produced by Dark Matter Studios and Collective Dream Films. It will be released countrywide by Ster-Kinekor Entertainment on April 1 2016in co-operation with kykNET Films and the Department of Trade and Industry.
