The KZNSA is to host JetLag
Inyathuko, a series of presentations by artists and creative types who
often travel to interesting destinations for work or leisure, sometimes both.
Being interesting people, artists usually develop an
interesting rapport with cities or other places which they find themselves in
and it is through this event that these individuals will report on their travels
and in a way, begin to frame their host city through their eyes and experience.
A show and tell style event taking place on February 3,
presentations will include a combination of projected pictures taken during the
travel supported by strong commentary from each speaker. The speakers are a
diverse group, each bringing a unique perspective and style of storytelling in
a 10 minute slot per speaker.
Speakers include Angela Shaw, Curator of the Venice
Biennale, Venice; Menga Nhlabathi (filmmaker) – AFRIFF2015, Lagos; Paulo
Menezes (Photographer) - Studio Vortex photography residency, Arles; Tiny
Mungwe (Filmmaker) - Rome Film Fest., Rome, and Russel Hlongwane (Arts
Administrator) - SXSW, Austin.
Over and above it all, this is a reason to get together as
Durban's creative community. The event is also a rebuttal to the perception
that Durban's creative scene is inactive.
JetLag Inyathuko takes place at 18h00 on February 3. The KZNSA Gallery is situated at 166 Bulwer Road, Glenwood,
in Durban. More
