Coming to the Schlesinger Theatre at Michaelhouse in the KZN Midlands on February 12 will be Sweetie Darling, presented by Copy Dog Productions.

This new one-man comedy written and directed by multi award-winning playwright-director Clinton Marius (Lollipop Lane, The Fantastical Flea Circus, B!*ch Stole My Doek) stars Bongani Mbatha and won the coveted Suliman Family Trust award for the best production on the 2016 Musho! Festival.

Sweetie Darling is a romantic comedy about a young man who goes all out to prove himself. While he sets up a picnic in the park for his sweetheart, he recounts the ups and downs of his journey to happiness. As he finds himself, and love, he also finds his path to spiritual growth.

In his review for artSMart, Keith Millar comments:

Bringing Marius’ clever, witty and insightful script to life was a very impressive Bongani Mbatha. He creates the lovable and vulnerable character, Jacob, whose ambition in life is to impress Nosipho, the girl of his dreams, and to get her to fall in love with him. After the success of Clinton Marius’ delightful, award winning, production B!*ch Stole My Doek, his next offering was looked forward to with eager anticipation. Well - he certainly has not disappointed with the enchanting comedy one-hander ...”

Actor Bongani Mbatha made his professional debut in 2000, performing in the Playhouse Company’s New Stages production, Nomalizo by Bonginkosi Shangase. Subsequent hits include among others, the award-winning Maluju Zulu at the Market Theatre (2003), Ngicela uxolo (2008), Kudela Owawziyo (2009), Sophiatown (2013), All Gone and Skungpoomery (2014).

Sweetie Darling has one performance on February 12 at 19h30 in the Schlesinger Theatre at Michaelhouse in Balgowan. Tickets R80 booked through Mrs Angela Jonsson at theatre@michaelhouse.org or call 033 234 1314.
