KwaMashu band Just Friends are the featured musical act in The Playhouse Company’s Sundowners concert on April 1 in the Playhouse.

Just Friends was formed in 2014 to introduce African jazz to the township, and to teach youth to play instruments to keep them away from crime and drugs. The band is made up of Bernard Mndaweni on bass guitar, Khaya Dlamini on saxophone, Eric Duma on trumpet, Wake Mahlobo on drums and Lindelani Mathonsi on piano. The band has performed in various venues around the Durban area and plays African jazz, maskanda, mbaqanga and other musical styles.

Also on the programme for the evening is the extremely popular poets’ line-up. Poets Aphiwe Boiboi, Tulile Siguca, Flintsky and Zewande BK Bhengu (from Johannesburg) will perform their own original works for always-enthusiastic Sundowners audiences.

The Sundowners concert on April 1 takes place in the Playhouse Foyer from 17h00. Entry is free.
