On Easter Sunday (March 27), The Playhouse Company will
present a special Easter Concert to celebrate this most Holy of Christian days.
Featuring the KZN Philharmonic conducted by Naum Rousine,
the Playhouse Chorale, the Clermont Choir and leading soloists, The Easter Concert will include many
favourite sacred pieces such as the gloriously stirring Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah,
Schubert’s Ave Maria, and Agnus Dei from Mozart’s Coronation Mass.
The concert will feature South African opera stars Aubrey
Lodewyk and Arline Jaftha, and gospel sensations Sifiso Ncwane and Hlengiwe
Mhlaba . Hailing from the KZN South Coast, Ncwane has a massive and loyal
following for his thrilling gospel sounds. He has released three smash hit
albums:Bayede Baba, Baba Ngiyavuma
and Kulungile Baba. SAMA Award
nominee Mhlaba, who was born in KwaMashu, captivates audiences with her
worshipful performances and has the following albums to her name: Esandleni Somusa, Dwala Lami, Laphalala
Igazi, Abba Baba, Live At The State Theatre and Hlala Kuye.
Baritone Lodewyk has an admirable number of opera roles to
his name, and performs regularly at concerts, soirees, weddings and lieder
recitals. Soprano Jaftha joined the Cape Town Opera Voice of the Nation Ensemble
in 2003 and was appointed assistant Chorus Master in 2006. She joined the Voice
of the Nation Studio in 2009, and has performed extensively both locally and
internationally.
The Easter Concert takes place on Easter Sunday (March 27) at
