SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW!

(Christopher Cockburn)

In an innovative venture geared to appeal to audiences of all ages, the popular Durban Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr Christopher Cockburn, will collaborate with Durban Girls College’s senior choir in a concert, titled Something Old, Something New to be performed in Durban Girls College’s Centenary Hall on March 14.

The two sections of the programme presented by the Durban Chamber Choir will contain a cappella music by composers featured in their two concert programmes from 2015: William Byrd, Josquin des Prez, Orlandus Lassus, Camille Saint-Saƫns and Charles Villiers Stanford.

Conducted by Ronel Perks and accompanied by Kim Siedle, the items to be performed by Durban Girls College senior choir embrace a wide range of popular vocal genres. Included in their selection are: Don McLean’s American Pie; the Pablo Casals classic Nigra Sum; the spiritual Wade in the Water; Jerry Walker’s evergreen Mister Beau Jangles; Carl Jenkins’s Two Hai Kus; All the April Evening by Hugh Robertson; and a medley of three Beatles classics.

The concert takes place from 18h00 to 19h30 in Durban Girls College’s Centenary Hall on the Berea. Tickets R50 (R30 pensioners and scholars) at the door. Public entrance to DGC is at 586 Musgrave Road.
