In an innovative
venture geared to appeal to audiences of all ages, the popular Durban Chamber
Choir, under the direction of Dr Christopher Cockburn, will collaborate with
Durban Girls College’s senior choir in a concert, titled Something Old, Something New to be performed in Durban Girls
College’s Centenary Hall on March 14.
The two sections of
the programme presented by the Durban Chamber Choir will contain a cappella
music by composers featured in their two concert programmes from 2015: William
Byrd, Josquin des Prez, Orlandus Lassus, Camille Saint-Saƫns and Charles
Villiers Stanford.

Perks and accompanied by Kim Siedle, the items to be performed by Durban Girls
College senior choir embrace a wide range of popular vocal genres. Included in
their selection are: Don McLean’s American Pie; the Pablo Casals classic
Nigra Sum; the spiritual Wade in the Water; Jerry Walker’s
evergreen Mister Beau Jangles; Carl Jenkins’s Two Hai Kus; All
the April Evening by Hugh Robertson; and a medley of three Beatles
classics.
The concert takes
place from 18h00 to 19h30 in Durban Girls College’s Centenary Hall on the
Berea. Tickets R50 (R30 pensioners and scholars) at the door. Public entrance
to DGC is at 586 Musgrave Road.
