(Frank Graham)
Spend a nostalgic evening at Rhumbelow Theatre with Frank
Graham, one of South Africa’s most versatile character actors and comedians, as
he re-invokes memories with his hugely popular brand of humour in a show titled
“Do you remember a time when the only home entertainment we
had was our precious radio?” asks Frank Graham. “Do you remember our
universally popular Springbok Radio with its plethora of music shows and quiz
shows? And, particularly, do you recall the vast numbers of plays, serials, and
series? Do you remember, above all, the comedies that could help to lift your spirits
at the end of a hard day?
“Of course you do - and with affection, I would suggest,” he
adds. “Those were the days of Inspector
Carr, Henry Simon of the Missing Persons Bureau, of Doctor Paul and Mary Livingston, MD. They were the days of No 1 and
No 2, Sir Gregory Pitkin, Mildred Murfin and Humbert and Lolita Snetherswaite;
the days of Able Seaman Johnson, Percy Snodgrass and Kenneth Wibley. From 1968
on, the vast majority of comedies was recorded right here in Durban, many of
them in front of “live” audiences.
The Golden Days Of Springbok Radio has two
