Magrit Mutsaerts (oboe).)
Baroque 2000's new season begins on April 10 at the usual
venue, the Church of the Monastery at Mariannhill and features excerpts from
Suites one and two of Handel's celebrated Water
Music.
Handel's great work for strings, oboes, trumpets, horns,
bassoon and strings was first performed 299 years ago by musicians on a barge
on the River Thames for King George the First who, with his entourage, was
carried downstream alongside on his own boat.
Also on the programme are the same composer's Concerto Grosso
op 6 no 8, and Vivaldi's Concerto 'per molti instrumenti', RV 574, a high-spirited
work scored for strings, oboes and horns.
The concert takes place on April 10 at 11h00 (not as indicated
on the street posters)
Tickets R140; subscriptions for the eight concert season are
available, offering reserved seats and queue-free entry. There is plenty of
free and safe parking. Enquiries to Michel on 082 303 5241, or sursouth@iafrica.com
The funding of the 2016 Concert Series (8
