Lu Dlamini and Madala Kunene, two of Durban’s top musicians,
will perform a double bill with special guests on April 29 in the Playhouse
Drama to launch their respective new CDs. The programme will also feature the
acclaimed Claremont Community choir.
Dlamini will feature in the first half launching Ulimi-Lami while Kunene will follow
after interval to launch 1959.
Dlamini is supported by an impressive line up of
music-makers on her album: Sphelele Dlamini (penny whistle); Nir Hermelin
(guitar); Barney Bophela (keyboards and organ); Bernard Mndaweni (bass); Paki
Peleoele (drums); Demi Fernandez (guitar); Bavikile Ngema (vocals); Nux Schwartz
(guitar); Mzamo Zungu (drums); Mazwakhe Gumede (bass) and Madala Kunene
(vocals).
The 11 track Ulimi-Lami
showcases her Dlamini’s impressive musicality across a variety of styles. It was
recorded at The Headroom, mixed by Marius Botha and mastered in Switzerland by
Richard Edwards.
An acknowledged eThekwini Living Legend, Madala Kunene’s new
album 1959 refers to the year of the
forced removals and covers a range of emotional styles as the much loved and
respected artist comments on his subject. The album has been achieved in
collaboration with strong musical associates and friends and was
recorded at The Headroom.
The Lu Dlamini & Madala Kunene in Concert is produced in
association with the Playhouse Company and will take place in the Playhouse
