There are new and
exciting things on the horizon in the beautiful KZN Midlands. Trayci Tompkins
of Zulu-lulu Art House fame has joined forces with the popular Caladdi B&B
at Lidgetton, and will be booking regular overnight Artists Retreats and Studio
Workshops.
Each retreat will
be designed and co-ordinated by Tompkins with invited artist presenters
throughout the year, while Caladdi B&B hosts Nova and Wayne Till will make
every visitor’s stay a relaxed and memorable one.
In April, it’s all
about clay! Tompkins will run the first retreat from April 24 to 26.
The April Creative
Clay Retreat requires no previous art or clay experience, so it will be the
perfect getaway for friends to get together, relax and have fun.
Well-known for her
statement hand-coiled vessels and sculpture, and creator of the iconic
‘Dlamini’ figurine, Tompkins will share her skills in making and demonstrate
some easy steps of creating with clay.
“A night-time Raku
firing is planned for Sunday which is filled with drama and flames under the
night sky. On the Monday, you will learn
the craft of lino cut and use your designs to create something special. Then on
Tuesday morning we’ll be waxing and brushing and banding colour with some
ceramic painting techniques before a hearty send-off lunch Caladdi-style,” says
Tompkins.
Nova and Wayne Till,
owners of Caladdi B&B, have become well-known for creating a comfortable,
homely feel, with hearty home-cooked meals. They have a 9,5 rating on
Booking.com and a 5-star rating on Trip Advisor.
The rate of R2,500
per person sharing includes; two nights’ accommodation, all relevant breakfast,
lunch, dinners and workshop teas during their stay, three days of workshops,
plus all materials and post workshop glaze firing. (Drinks and any added extras
will be for own account). There is also a rate option for single accommodation.
Check in 12 noon Sunday – check out lunchtime Tuesday (lunch included)
“It’s a well-known
fact that creating makes you happier. And we always need happiness, so take
time off your busy lives and book today. Space is limited,” adds Tompkins.
