PRE CONCERT LECTURES

The six-concert Winter Symphony Season of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra begins on May 19 and so do the popular pre-concert lectures, which are aimed at increasing the enjoyment of those attending the concerts.

The concerts are in the Durban City Hall on Thursdays at 19h30 and the lectures are at the same venue at 18h00, ending about 18h45.

There is one exception. The first lecture, on May 19, will be given in the Alhambra Room, the Playhouse, Anton Lembede (Smith) Street, at 18h00. After the lecture a security escort will accompany the audience on the five-minute walk to the City Hall for the concert.

All other lectures are in the City Hall. The speakers discuss the works to be played at each concert, with recorded examples of the music. The emphasis is on information, informality and humour. The entrance fee is R10.

The lecturers for the winter season are: Michael Green (May 19 & 26); Teddy Pillay (June 2 & 9) and David Smith (June 16 and 23).
