On June 25 comedy lovers should fasten their seatbelts for
the laugh-a-minute All Star Comedy Jam
presented by East Coast Radio at Durban’s iconic International Convention
Centre.
Hosted by Durban’s well-known breakfast radio host, Darren
Maule, who will not only be welcoming the acts, but throwing down some funnies
himself, audiences can expect a top-class comedy spectacle featuring a line-up
of popular local comedic personalities – Kagiso Lediga, Loyiso Gola, Conrad
Koch, Joey Rasdien, Darren Simpson, Carvin Goldstone and Rory Petzer.
Chosen distinctly for their unique South African flavour,
these comedians are sure to impress with some new content – inspired by South
Africa – for South Africans!
Recognized today as one of the country's pioneering black
comedians in the country and given his invaluable contribution to local comedy,
Kagiso Lediga has certainly earned his right to be called a South African
comedy legend.
Another heavyweight who will be taking to the stage is
Loyiso Gola - popularly known for being the co-creator and anchor of the
late-night satirical news television series Late
Nite News with Loyiso Gola on e.tv and eNCA which launched in 2010. Gola is
sure to put a spin on political content, twisting the serious into funny –
something a South African audience can truly appreciate.
Adding to the lineup will be an appearance by Joey Rasdien
who is said to be the face of a new generation of South African comedy. Rasdien
is popularly known for his appearances in local movies such as Running Riot, Bunny Chow, Vaatjie Sien Sy
Gat, Dollars and White Pipes, as well as the recently released Outrageous. Recently, Rasdien headlined
the most recent Blacks Only Comedy,
and has become a regular performer at the popular Heavyweight Comedy Jams.
Another representative of the “Bruino’s” is Durban boy,
Carvin Goldstone, who began his comedy career a decade ago after winning the
Madras Masala Comedy show Competition in 2006. Known for presenting 100% clean
comedy and drawing from life experiences, Goldstone is sure to hit the funny
bone for many locals – young and old.
With so many big names putting mouth to mic, what better way
to create a spectacle than by adding a few more? Conrad Koch is another big
name - due to his fantastically funny award-winning world-class puppetry. In
2010, Koch won Entertainer of the Year award in 2010 and has served the
industry for over 15 years to both local and international audiences. Koch is a
must-see act, especially when he is joined by his most famous character, Mr.
Chester Missing - a regular on the hit e.tv show, Late Night News with Loyiso Gola; and the front man of his hit one
man shows, Puppet Asylum and the Chester Missing Roadshow.
For fans of Darren “Whackhead” Simpson, expect to be
thrilled when he steps onto stage to help you laugh out loud, which he has
become most popular for – presenting the M-Net hidden camera show, Laugh Out Loud and Clipz. Darren “Whackhead” Simpson has truly become a household name
in the entertainment industry and his act is sure to impress on the
night.
With the show being presented by East Coast Radio, both
Darren Maule and Rory Petzer from the station will be showing off their comedy
skills which have become quite popular in recent times.
Rory Petzer has been in radio for nine years and is
currently the Executive Producer and co-host of East Coast Drive with Damon
Beard. Rory has three MTN Radio Awards under his belt and when not in studio,
Petzer is a professional comedian, writer, entertainer and MC performing in and
around KZN on a regular basis and boasts a satirical news website www.newsbyrory.com
which averages over 1500 views per day.
Last but not least is Darren Maule, a seasoned stand-up
comedian, actor and entertainer who is known for his comedic story-telling and
for playing his part in Play TV, Hard
Copy, Out of the Box and sit-com Font.
