KZN MIDLANDS MATRIC ART EXHIBITION 2016

Currently running in the Tatham Art Gallery in Pietermaritzburg is the KZN Midlands Matric Art Exhibition 2016.

An annual exhibition of art works produced by matriculants in the Midlands schools offering art as a subject, this has turned to be the highlight amongst other gallery events. Due to extensive renovations in 2015, the Gallery was unable to host this exhibition. Some 17 schools in the Midlands region participated in this year’s exhibition. Gallery education staff visited schools during 2015 to see much of what had been produced, and were assisted by an independent selector to make the final choices.

Art educators encouraged their learners to be innovative and, as always, there are a number of surprises in this year’s selection. The art works take many forms, from sculpture and ceramics to photographs, prints, paintings, installations and digital images. A number of art journals, which form part of the curriculum, have been selected for display.

The Tatham Art Gallery is situated opposite the Town Hall in Chief Albert Luthuli Street, Pietermaritzburg. It is open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10h00 to 17h00. Café Tatham is open on Saturdays. Safe parking with a car guard available. More information on 033 392 2801 or visit www.tatham.org.za
