(David Starke)
Coming up from the Maritzburg Musicians Club on July 12 is accomplished
hard-working musician David Starke
who is currently on tour from Eshowe with Norwegian musical fiend and friend
Jaran.
David Starke
is originally from Cape Town and graduated from UCT with a degree in Drama in
2005. He now works as an actor, musician, composer and teacher and has a
particular love for the old, soulful music of yesteryear and creates
performances that are minimalist and sincere.
Dave and Jaran met five years ago when Jaran was running a
music school in Zululand. They quickly made a musical connection and have been
performing together on-and-off ever since. Jaran is primarily a
drummer/percussionist, but also plays piano, guitar, bass and delivers mean
vocal harmonies. This tour will feature stripped-down guitar, vocals and percussion
covering a wide range of genres, including folk, rock, reggae, rockabilly and
swing.
Pietermaritzburg-based band Stark will also be playing on the night, a fresh vibrant
band that enjoys performing and delivering their original jivey sounds to the audience.
There will also be a sneak preview of the sounds of Nicky
Grieshaber of Keys Alive at the
beginning of the evening.
The MMC promises another jam-packed evening to keep music-lovers
warm at La Casa on July 12 at 19h00. Entrance R40.
The home of the Maritzburg Musicians Club, La Casa (formerly
The Red Door) is situated in Quarry Road, off Victoria Road, in
Pietermaritzburg. Car guards on duty. More information from Roger O’Neill on
