(Shona Johnson)
(Reviews from
the artSMart team currently in Grahamstown at the 2016 National Arts Festival)
The perfect comedy
to add to your festival experience. (Review
by Khinali Bagwandeen)
B!*ch Stole My
Doek has returned to the
National Arts Festival after winning a Standard Bank Ovation Award in
2015.
This one-woman show,
produced by Copy Dog Productions written and directed by Clinton Marius, had
the audience in stitches, which was no surprise given the popularity of the
show last year. Lead actress Shona Johnson had the crowd entertained from
beginning to end with her colourful language and animated expressions.
The comedy is about
a coloured woman who blames her new neighbour for the disappearance of her “doek”,
but the story is much more than just that as Johnson switches between five
different characters to explain the story of her allegedly stolen 'doek'.
As we are
mid-festival, B!*ch Stole My Doek is the perfect comedy to add to your
festival experience. There are three
more shows: July 6 at 20h00, July 8 at 10h00 and July 9 at 18h00 at the Scout
Hall. - Khinali Bagwandeen
