The Wedding Singer was Adam Sandler’s first as a romantic lead in a major production and set the tone for several similar roles to follow, while female lead Drew Barrymore re-established herself as a box-office drawcard after a dip in popularity.

Wedding singer Robbie (Adam Sandler) is left at the altar by his fiancé. He is consoled by a pretty waitress (Drew Barrymore) and soon discovers he has fallen in love with her. Alas, she is engaged to a successful businessman. On a flight to Las Vegas, Robbie gets an unexpected opportunity to test her feelings for him.

The Wedding Singer, which was directed by Frank Coraci in 1998 can be seen on M-Net Movies Showcase DStv Channel 107 on July 11 at 20h00. Rating:PG13VL Keep an eye out for rock legend Billy Idol.
