(Roots Alive)
The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will present Roots
Alive on August 30.
‘Roots Alive is the City of Leeds Youth Music folk group.
These talented young musicians come from all over Leeds in the UK to play
traditional dance tunes and songs from the UK and North West Europe.
The band has performed in festivals throughout Europe.
Currently Roots Alive consists of 13 young people aged between 12 and 18. Three
of its members play in the National Youth Folk Ensemble. Roots Alive frequently
performs professionally, delivering dances for people celebrating weddings,
significant birthdays and anniversaries.
This summer Roots Alive is making its second trip to South
Africa for workshops and concerts, sharing traditional song and dance with
several schools in Durban.’
