(Russell Scott, DCO resident conductor)
For the first time
in many years, the Durban City Orchestra returns to the idyllic setting of the
Marianhill Monastery Church.
Featuring a
melodious programme that will please even the most critical of music lovers,
the DCO will surprise and delight on October 9.
In the spotlight is
DCO principal clarinet player Brett Alborough, playing Weber’s 1st Clarinet
Concerto, which exploits the myriad complexities the clarinet can offer. The
main work of the day will be Dvorak’s exuberant 8th Symphony, a powerhouse work
that allows the entire orchestra to shine through flowing folk melodies and
Czech influences.
Conducted by DCO
resident conductor Russell Scott, the 55 piece DCO will open the concert with
Verdi’s immortal overture to La Forza Del
Destino.
“The wonderful
acoustic and beautiful surrounds of the Marianhill Monastery Church lends itself
perfectly to a Sunday afternoon of incredible music, played by passionate
musicians,” says Russell Scott.
The concert starts
at 15h00 on October 9 at the Marianhill Monastery Church. Tickets R00 (R80
pensioners & students). For more information contact 082 968 7650 or email:
