Deadline: October 10,
2016.
The deadline for entry into the National Arts Festival/BASA
Arts Journalism Awards has been extended to October 10, 2016, at 17h00.
The Awards invites submissions from media and freelancers
across all genres of work that report and reflect on the arts. Any piece of
published or broadcast work that covers the arts sector, either as a news,
review, photographic essay or feature piece, is eligible – even if the work
isn’t carried in “traditional” arts sections.
A panel of judges has been convened by radio journalist,
John Maytham, to review all the work and select the winners across a range of
categories. One overall “Arts Journalist of the Year” will be named and the
recipient will receive a cash prize. Last year’s overall winner was Lwandile
Fikeni. The awards will be announced in November. 2016.
Winners will also enjoy a boost to their CV and the
recognition of their peers. The awards were designed to highlight media within
the South African landscape who are engaging with the arts in critical and
ground-breaking new ways. Organisers maintain that the media play a vital role
in stimulating the work of artists by becoming both a mouthpiece and sounding
board for their work.
