Dillan Oliphant is the 2015 and 2016 Comedy Central Roast Champion and Comics Choice Award winner and he is coming to Durban.
The Eldorado Park funny man will bring his highly acclaimed one man show, Oliphant in the Room to Durban's new home of comedy the Durban Jewish Centre (DJC) on October 27, 28 and 29.
Oliphant has accumulated many comedy accolades in a short space of time but he is probably best known as the stand-out act on Trevor Noah's NationWild DVD. His deadpan one liners were the highlight of the Nationwild Tour and he was the most talked-about act off the DVD where Trevor Noah introduced some of his favourite up and coming comedians.
Fresh-faced and with a fresh approach, described as a deadpan-one-liner comic, Oliphant has grown from a novice to making waves nationally in what seems like a few short years. He makes for great viewing, his static stage presence makes his unnervingly clever jokes accessible to everyone and not only makes you laugh but think as well. A casual, reserved customer off stage, Oliphant’s professional approach to his art, belies his short but full career to date.
As the only young comic in the deadpan game, Oliphant is refreshingly without the many “copy and paste” tags associated with young acts still learning their trade. The command of his style and his approach to his art was rewarded with two accolades; He was named winner of the Newcomer of the year award at the Annual SA Comic’s Choice awards for 2012. The other, a much sought-after opening spot in South Africa’s best-selling comedy tour of all time, Trevor Noah’s – That’s Racist.’
Away from the stage, Oliphant has made appearances on television in L.O.L – a MultiChoice commissioned show, Comedy Central Roast and Late Night News with Loyiso Gola on e.TV.
Performances of Oliphant in the Room take place on October 27, 28 and 29 at the Durban Jewish Centre (DJC). Tickets at quicket.co.za or at the door. To book call 083 291 5702.
