The Durban Theatre Award-winning actor and playwright
Sboniso Msimango and Siza Mnisi Mthembu are proud to present the long-awaited
Arts festival.
BlackOut Arts Festival will take place at DUT’s Courtyard Theatre
from December 1 to 4 and will include theatre plays, poetry, music, stand-up
comedy, indlamu, theatre workshops, dialogues and fashion showcase.
BlackOut carries dissected meanings, one being a theatrical
term that indicates the switching-off of lights which is a metaphor of wrapping
up this year’s artistic work, especially theatrical work. This year’s theme - “arty
is classy” - aims to relook at the image of art and to change people’s unfavourable
perspective about art at large.
“If people can dress up for church, they can surely dress up
for theatre” says Sboniso Mismango, the Festival Director. The festival will
encourage intellectual dialogues on how artists can start to build their brands,
identify and expand their market/audience. Among other performances includes:
Other performances include Ebony Gypsy; Mpume Ndlovu (From
Uzalo); Snenhlanhla Mkhize; Nozi The Poet and Dlungelwa.
BlackOut Arts Festival runs from December 1 to 4 at the Courtyard
Theater at the Durban University of Technology’s Ritson Campus in Mansfield
Road.
Tickets are available at R100 for the entire festival. For
