The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will present the 2016
Jazz Exam Recitals on November 23 2016
The candidates are Bachelor of Practical Music recital
students: Siyanda Zulu (trumpet), Xolisa Dlamini (voice) and Lucky Swele
(guitar).
Siyanda “SLASH” Zulu is a multi-instrumentalist, composer
and arranger. He will be sharing his stage with Burton Naidoo and Sanele
Phakathi (piano) Dalisu Ndlazi and Mbonisi Nhleko on (bass).
Xolisa Dlamini is a SAMA award nominee and has recorded with
various artists in South Africa including Selaelo Selota. One of the tunes audiences
can expect in her repertoire is In search
of my heart by McCoy Turner. She will be accompanied by Sibusiso Mashiloane
(piano), Philani Ngidi (bass) and Sibusiso Zondi (drums)
Lucky Swele grew up in Limpopo and loves Mbaqanga Music.
Lucky Swele (guitar) will be accompanied by Ayanda Sosibo (bass); Sanele
Phakathi and Zibusiso Makhathini (piano and keyboards), Stanley Matlou (drums),
Nozibusiso Vezi (vocals); Phumlani Mtiti (saxophone) and Mokgethisi Nkotsi (trombone).
Expect to hear compositions by as well as arrangements by the
participants
The jazz recitals take place at 18h00 on November 23 at The
Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN
Howard College Campus. Doors open at 17h30. Entrance is free. For more details
