Baroque 2000's last concert of the year, with Christmas
pieces from the Baroque repertoire, takes place on December 18 at the Church of
the Monastery, Mariannhill.
Corrette's Symphonie
contenant les plus beaux Noƫls no 4 - incorporates Christmas carols from
America, Germany and France. In Vivaldi's violin concerto in E major, il Riposo - per il Santissimo Natale (for
the most holy birth), the soloist will be Ralitza Macheva. Torelli's Christmas
concerto, and Corelli's concerto for Christmas night are the other seasonal
items.
The other works are Torelli's Sonata in D for trumpet, G9,
soloist Michel Schneuwly, and Bach's Jesu,
Joy of Man's Desiring, the much-loved Cantata excerpt often performed at
Christmas.
The concert takes place at 11h30 on December 18 at the
Church of the Monastery, Mariannhill. Tickets R140 at the door, and the
Monastery tea garden will be open for breakfasts and lunches. Parking is free and safe.
