Over Exposed, presented by the irrepressible creative David
Gouldie, will take Durban into a brave new year with its visual journey to left
of centre and back again.
This site-specific interactive performance art experience
takes place in the heart of the city at The Rivertown Shed from January 26 to
29 at 19h30.
A collaboration of art, dance, video, fashion, music,
poetry, lighting and sound by the city’s brightest, craziest and most daring
artists, Over Exposed promises to
“shock, delight, surprise and leave you breathless”.
Inspired by Springbok Radio’s Squad Cars, the iconic radio play will set the stage for an
interactive Murder Mystery Whodunit, where the audience will be part of the
unravelling story
“The venue at 130 Stalwart Simelane (Stanger) Street will be
transformed into a mad and breathtaking world of sensory stimulation overload,”
said Gouldie. “For four days only, around 60 of Durban’s hottest artists will
come out to play, so plug in your chargers and get your lipstick ready!”
In a unique theatre experience, guests will be taken on a
360 degree multi-media journey of discovery incorporating nine stages, 12 projector
screens, 250 television sets and a cast of Durban’s best and the hottest DJs.
“It will be like being in a movie – fully interactive and
packed with surprises,” said Gouldie.
Some of the Durban artists involved are Veranda Panda,
Caroline Smart, Karen van Pletzen, The Durban Gospel Choir, Kobus van Heerden,
DJs Rooineck and Dumi, South Jersey PomPoms, Flatfoot Dance Company, Sean
Laurenz and Michael Broderick.
“It is about making art in the city that breeds
cutting-edge talent,” said Gouldie. “I live, love and breathe - and sometimes
hate - Durban and this is a celebration of its creative community – everyone is
lending a hand to make this happen.”
It is also a tribute to Gouldie’s mother, whose unfailing
support allowed him to spread his wings as a dancer, award-winning
choreographer, teacher, producer, event manager and creative luminary.
“At 43 this is one more opportunity to collaborate and
give back to the artistic community which I love so much. I want to throw
caution to the wind to make the show of my life. I want to play!”
