FOOD MEETS FINE ART AND WINE

Don’t miss the upcoming Food meets Fine Art and Wine tomorrow (January 28) at Cargo Hold, where it won’t be just about good wine and spectacular fare but also an opportunity to appreciate the arts.

Cargo Hold, at uShaka Marine World, has teamed up with Artisan Gallery who will be displaying artworks by established, as well as the finest up and coming South African artists, primarily from KZN. The artworks on show at the gallery are all handmade, unique, featuring work from a wide variety of disciplines, both traditional and contemporary – that of fine art, sculptures, ceramics, jewellery, woodwork and textiles.

The works of art displayed on the night at Cargo Hold will include ceramics by John Shirley, known for his quality bone china; well-known and highly respected artist John Smith; painted works by Nhlanhla Chonco; vibrant paintings by Anne Cleveland and sculptures by Carl Roberts, known for his works in bone, bronze and wood.

With a creative display, it is only fitting that there be exceptionally creative menus. Upon arrival, guests can expect a sorbet of Pineapple granite and Pina Colada foam before being directed to their seat for the evening

Sip on a Chardonnay while enjoying a starter of Salmon, scallop and Prawn (butter poached scallop, salmon, beetroot chiffonade, mango mousse, ginger aioli, jalapeno and teriyaki prawn)

This will be followed by a selection of main courses, that of a Seared Lamb (seared lamb rump and loin, parsnip puree, portabella mushrooms, mint pesto crumb, fondant potato and lamb jus); Grilled vegetable stack (aubergine, brown mushroom, red pepper, baby marrow, cous cous, butternut veloute, basil pesto); or Roasted chicken supreme (roasted chicken supreme, parsnip, toasted hazelnuts, pommes puree, mushroom crème) served with a choice of Syrah, Merlot or Pinot Noir.

Decadent dessert fitting for this creative evening is Chocolate and Caramel, featuring smoked chocolate torte, hazelnut semi-freddo, marshmallow in a caramel soil and accompanied by a dessert wine fit for the occasion.

To end the perfect night in the presence of beautiful art, enjoy teas, coffee and friandise. The various works of arts on display can be purchased on the night, a worthy investment for any art connoisseur.
